The Heart Behind Four Rivers

Krista Powers

Hello! I’m Krista. Welcome to Four Rivers Art Therapy.

"In my own words, I’d like to share a little of my story and the path that led me here.

As a French-Acadian, Irish and Scottish settler, I grew up on the unceded territory of the Wolastoqey people in Fredericton, New Brunswick. I graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1998 with a Bachelor of Kinesiology in Sport Science. I later continued my studies in Ontario, completing a Bachelor of Applied Sciences at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2000, which led me into a career as a Certified Public Health Inspector and Health Educator for nearly a decade. During that time, I married and began a family. The course of my life shifted profoundly after experiencing a traumatic birth that led to childbirth-related PTSD and the onset of chronic illness. Through this chapter, art became a healer and a life long companion in self-care."

"From 2015 to 2020, I worked part-time as a professional photographer and mixed media artist. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I discovered the field of art therapy—and by 2023 I began my master’s-level training at the Kutenai Art Therapy Institute. In May 2025, I received my post-graduate diploma as a Professional Art Psychotherapist.

I am deeply committed to walking alongside art therapy participants in their healing journeys. I know firsthand the transformative power of the arts. My experience spans many mediums—photography, mixed media, collage, textiles, and more—and I believe in a wholistic approach to healing that includes connection with the natural world."

"For me, art therapy is where evidence-based knowledge meets the soul’s journey of creativity. It is a profound honour, and one I hold with humbling respect, to witness and support the artistic insights, discoveries, and healing of others. I would be delighted to walk with you as you discover your own creative spirit."

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Art Therapist who brings care, creativity, and professionalism to my work. As a member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association (CATA), I am committed to ethical practice and ongoing supervision, ensuring a safe and supportive space for every person I work with.

Flowing with Intention

At Four Rivers Art Therapy, I am devoted to supporting individuals through art therapy that empowers, uplifts, and honours the whole person. Rooted in unconditional positive regard and guided by flexibility, we co-create inclusive, compassionate spaces for healing and self-discovery.

Through creative exploration and mindful, somatic awareness, I invite participants to explore connection, self-expression, and transformation.

As a professional art therapist, I trust in the transformative power of art and the healing that emerges through connection — with self, community, and the natural world.

I offer individualized art therapy to support healing, cultivate self-awareness, and foster overall well-being.

Land Acknowledgement

I am living and learning on the traditional unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship first signed by the British Crown in 1726. These treaties were not about the surrender of lands and resources. These treaties recognize Mi’kmaq title and established an agreement for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. As a French-Acadian, Irish and Scottish settler, I am learning what it means to be in right relationship to this land and all who reside here. I extend deep gratitude for the sacred wisdom and teachings that Indigenous peoples share, and appreciate the ways of respect and reciprocity for all beings.
