What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is an integrative mental health profession facilitated by a trained professional art therapist. It uses art-making, the creative process, and reflection on the resulting artwork to support emotional well-being, self-expression, and personal growth. Art therapy can help individuals process emotional experiences, increase self-awareness, better understand behaviours and patterns, strengthen coping and social skills, and support healing through trauma, grief, loss, life transitions, and other challenges.

Engaging in the creative process with the support of a professional art therapist can offer many benefits, including fostering a sense of calm, reducing anxiety, increasing self-esteem, and supporting deeper self-understanding and integration.


As a form of psychotherapy, art therapy combines psychological theory, neurobiology, and creative expression within a supportive therapeutic relationship, offering opportunities for insight, connection, and healing beyond words alone.



No prior art experience or natural artistic ability is required to participate in art therapy. An art therapy process is centered on exploration rather than results—there is no right or wrong way to create.


Each person is encouraged to engage with creative activities in the ways that feel most meaningful, natural and supportive to them, in a space that is free from judgment and guided by a professional art therapist.



Art therapy can support a journey of self-discovery, helping you reconnect with your authentic self, gain clarity around what matters most to you, and better understand what you need to feel grounded, balanced, and fulfilled in your daily life.


Through the creative process, art therapy can gently access experiences and emotions beyond words, allowing exploration of the past while remaining supported and anchored in the present moment.

Art therapy can sometimes feel difficult to fully understand through words alone—the most meaningful way to experience its benefits is to engage in the process yourself.


Beginning something new can feel vulnerable or intimidating, and it is important to honour that. Entering the art therapy process is often a step toward developing a deeper, more compassionate relationship with yourself. With the guidance of a professional art therapist, art-making can become a supportive and restorative practice of self-care, reflection, and healing.

I work with adults and youth (12+) in private practice, offering a compassionate, collaborative, and individualized approach to therapy. Using a multimodal framework, I weave together art therapy and expressive arts approaches with somatic awareness through a relational and trauma-informed lens. My work also incorporates mindfulness-based practices that support grounding in the present moment and helps individuals connect with themselves in ways that feel meaningful, accessible, and aligned with their unique experiences.


My areas of specialization include supporting individuals navigating the impacts of trauma, as well as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, neurodivergent individuals, and those living with cancer, and chronic illness. I strive to create an affirming and supportive therapeutic space where clients can deepen self-understanding, build resilience, and move toward healing at their own pace.


I am a professional member of the Canadian Art Therapy Association and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, as well as a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and Registered Therapeutic Counsellor. These professional affiliations reflect my commitment to ethical practice, ongoing professional development, clinical supervision, and maintaining professional liability insurance to support safe and responsible care.
